It turns out, that one of the most surefire ways to make fewer errors on the course and shave strokes off your game doesn’t have a damn thing to do with the clubs in your bag.
What it boils down to is your pace of play, but not in the traditional sense. I’m talking about the pace of play in your mind. Hear me out.
The Navy Seals have a saying, “slow is smooth, and smooth is fast”. Slow here means intentional, deliberate. Smooth means patient & confident. Fast means accurate, focused, & successful.
These guidelines apply pretty fucking well to the course too. When we focus on *what’s important now,* we don’t rush our swings when our internal narrative is confident, we play our best golf; we quickly shave strokes off our game. Rushed play is messy, full of mistakes, and never our best performance. Whether you’re playing to perform or playing for fun, it’s the cherry on top to end the day with a low score.
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Take it one swing at a time, remember to breathe, and play present.
Stay high, go low, be smooth.
